아벨라움은 넓은 공간 안에서 다수의 시술이 동시에 이루어지는 헤어살롱의 운영 특성을 고려해,
각각의 기능과 공간을 어떻게 유기적으로 연결할 것인지에 집중했습니다.
시술석과 거울, 샴푸 공간, 대기 공간처럼 서로 다른 기능이 반복되는 환경에서 단순히 많은 좌석을 배치하기보다,
시선과 동선이 자연스럽게 이어지면서도 각 영역이 명확한 역할을 가질 수 있는 공간을 만들고자 했습니다.
특히 공간의 중심을 이루는 경대를 단순한 시술 기능이 아닌 공간을 구성하는 하나의 구조체로 해석했습니다.
경대의 프레임과 거울이 파티션이자 벽의 역할을 하도록 계획해 별도의 벽체를 최소화하면서도
시술 영역을 자연스럽게 나누고, 각 공간 사이에는 적절한 독립성을 확보했습니다.
완전히 막힌 벽이 아니기 때문에 시선과 빛은 계속해서 연결되고, 공간 전체의 개방감 또한 유지됩니다.
헤어살롱에서 가장 반복적으로 마주하게 되는 거울과 빛 역시 중요한 디자인 요소로 활용했습니다.
서로 다른 방향을 비추는 거울의 반사와 반복되는 조명은 공간 전체에 일정한 리듬을 만들고,
공간과 사람, 빛이 중첩되면서 실제 면적 이상의 깊이감과 확장감을 만들어냅니다.
기존 구조가 드러나는 높은 오픈 천장은 그대로 활용하고, 길게 이어지는 선형 조명을 통해
공간의 방향성을 더욱 명확하게 만들었습니다.
라이트 그레이를 중심으로 한 절제된 색감 위에 미장 특유의 거친 질감과 스테인리스의 정제된 물성을 더해,
단순한 색의 변화보다는 소재와 빛이 만들어내는 대비와 깊이에 집중했습니다.
반면 고객이 머무르는 대기 공간에는 부드러운 곡선과 간접조명을 적용했습니다.
직선과 반복을 중심으로 구성된 시술 공간과 대비되는 흐름을 만들어
잠시 머물고 쉬어갈 수 있는 편안한 영역으로 계획했습니다.
샴푸 공간 역시 메인 공간과 직접적으로 단절시키기보다 톤과 빛의 변화를 통해
기능에 따른 공간의 전환이 자연스럽게 느껴지도록 구성했습니다.
결국 아벨라움은 벽으로 공간을 나누는 방식보다 경대와 거울, 빛과 소재 자체가 공간을 구획하고
연결하도록 계획한 프로젝트입니다.
기능적인 요소 하나하나가 공간을 구성하는 디자인 언어가 되고,
그 반복과 관계를 통해 개방감과 독립성이 공존하는 헤어살롱을 완성했습니다.
Considering the operational characteristics of a spacious hair salon where multiple services take place simultaneously, ABELRAUM focused on how each function and space could be organically connected.
Rather than simply arranging a large number of styling stations within an environment where styling areas, mirrors, shampoo zones, and waiting areas each serve different functions, we aimed to create a space where sightlines and circulation flow naturally while each area maintains a clear and distinct role.
In particular, the styling stations at the center of the space were conceived not simply as functional elements, but as structural components that define and organize the interior.
The frames and mirrors of the styling stations were designed to function as partitions and walls, minimizing the need for additional solid walls while naturally dividing the styling areas and providing an appropriate level of privacy between each zone.
Because these elements do not completely enclose the space, light and sightlines continue to flow through the interior, maintaining an overall sense of openness.
Mirrors and light, two of the most recurring elements within a hair salon, were also treated as key design components.
Reflections from mirrors facing different directions, together with the repetition of lighting elements, create a consistent rhythm throughout the space. The overlapping reflections of space, people, and light generate a sense of depth and visual expansion beyond the actual dimensions of the interior.
The high open ceiling was retained to reveal the existing structure, while long linear lighting elements were introduced to reinforce the direction and flow of the space.
Against a restrained palette centered on light gray, the raw texture of plaster finishes
was combined with the refined materiality of stainless steel.
Rather than relying on variations in color, the design focuses on the contrast and
depth created through materials, textures, and light.
In contrast, the waiting area incorporates soft curves and indirect lighting, creating a gentler flow against the linear and repetitive composition of the main styling area.
It was designed as a comfortable space where clients can pause and relax.
The shampoo area is also not completely separated from the main space. Instead, subtle changes in tone and lighting create a natural transition between different functions and atmospheres.
Ultimately, ABELRAUM was designed so that the styling stations, mirrors, light, and materials themselves define and connect the space, rather than relying on conventional walls to divide it.
Each functional element becomes part of the architectural language, and through their repetition and relationship, the salon achieves a balance between openness and privacy.
